WKAR Family Workshops with Mrs. Pizzo

Hello Parents,

As director of education at WKAR, I’m thrilled to invite your children to join our WKAR Family Book Club and Curious Crew Workshop sessions for At-Home Learning. We’ll get together once a week on a secure online platform to discuss books and to explore science with WKAR's Curious Crew.

We'll all learn together, as your participation in this special pilot program will help us develop more fun, engaging opportunities for At-Home Learning.

Students will be enrolled on a first-come, first-served basis. Workshop and Book Club participation is limited to 15 participants for each session.

So, don’t delay!

'SEATS' FOR ALL SESSIONS ARE STILL AVAILABLE! (as of 5/11/20)

WKAR Family Book Club

Thursdays May 7-June 4, 2020

2pm-2:30pm Grades 4-6 | Exploring Jumbies by Tracey Baptiste
4pm-4:30pm Grades 7-12 | Exploring Seedfolks by Paul Fleischman

One of my favorite responsibilities is to connect you and your children to books. Reading can provide a great escape from the world around us but it’s even better when discussed among friends. Through D2L's Course Management System, each weekly session will include high-quality supplemental materials, media and extended lessons connected to the book’s plot, themes, characters, settings and culture. Registration is limited to the first 15 participants so don’t delay.

Curious Crew Workshop

Wednesdays May 13-June 10, 2020

4pm-4:30pm Grades 3-7 and parents

Did you know Curious Crew is a WKAR original TV show enjoyed by hundreds of mid-Michigan viewers each day? Our host, Dr. Rob Stephenson, makes science engaging and fun for the entire family using a hands-on approach to investigate STEM concepts.

That’s why I’m thrilled to invite your children to take a closer look at Curious Crew investigations with this WKAR Family Workshop. We’ll view clips and discover ways to complete investigations right at home. Participants will be able to interact with me as your Workshop host and participate in discussion through a secure online platform. Additional supplemental materials and resources will be made available through Google Classroom to extend learning opportunities. Registration is limited to the first 15 participants so don’t delay.
